Frequently Asked Questions

About the program

What is debriefing?

Debriefing is a term used to describe a wide variety of practices, procedures, and protocols. One of the most common conceptualizations of debriefing is that of a formal, large group event during which everyone involved in the incident shares what they saw and what happened with the goal of learning what could have done differently.

In this program, we aim to “widen the lens” on debriefing practices. We use the term debriefing and mutual support practices to include practices used in the aftermath of critical events as well as practices that provide support with the day-to-day accumulation of trauma exposure and stress.
